🌱 Understanding G1 vs. G2 — Why Temperature Stability Matters

At Harmony Springs Farm, we run two generations of germination chambers: G1 (our original build) and G2 (the improved version). Both chambers are set to 85°F, but the real difference is in the details of the engineering:

  • G2 includes a full 1 inch of Styrofoam insulation.

  • G1 has minimal insulation and warms more slowly.

That single inch of insulation allows G2 to:

  • Reach target temperature faster

  • Maintain heat with fewer swings

  • Recover more quickly after door openings

  • Hold a tighter temperature band (often only 1–3°F difference)

For superhot peppers, those few degrees of stability matter. Capsicum Chinese

seeds respond directly to thermal consistency, not just peak temperature. Even small fluctuations can delay hydration, embryo activation, and emergence. Our data so far this germination season shows this affect.

This is why you’ll see faster, more uniform sprouting in G2 — and why growers should pay attention to heat stability, not just heat level. Frankly, I wouldn't have believed it would make that much of a difference.

This kind of controlled comparison is part of our ongoing effort to provide real‑world, data‑driven germination benchmarks for the pepper‑growing community. Jennifer and I are both retired Engineers with 40 year careers in manufacturing environments, we understand the value of data and efficiency.

🔥 Total Seedlings Potted: 486

These numbers give growers real‑world expectations for superhot germination timelines under controlled conditions. Germination Log

🔥 Daily Summary for Growers

G1 is down to seven slow‑germinating superhots and new seed lots. G2 is fully loaded with strong early performers. Potting is now in full swing, with several varieties showing exceptional vigor — especially the Tiberius Mauler line and Caribbean types like Datil and Red Savina.

This update continues our commitment to transparent, data‑driven germination reporting, helping growers understand how temperature stability, genetics, and chamber design influence emergence.
