CHECK OUT OUR SEEDS!!

The fields at Harmony Springs Farm are quiet now. Every pepper plant’s been cut down, the cover crops are tucked in tight, and the first snow’s hittin’ the ridge. Appalachian weather can’t make up its mind this time of year—frost in the morning, sunshine by lunch, and a freeze again before supper. But that’s farm life in these hills.

While the peppers rest, the real heat’s moving to our seed shop.

We didn’t expect to move this many so fast, but y’all apparently have plans to turn your gardens into little fire pits next spring—and we love to see it.

Planning Your Spicy Garden

So while the fields sleep under their blanket of frost, now’s the time to plan your garden. Think about where you want to plant those fiery beauties. Do you have a sunny spot? Perfect! Peppers love the sun.

Choosing the Right Soil

Next, let’s talk soil. Peppers thrive in well-draining soil rich in organic matter. You might want to mix in some compost or well-rotted manure. Trust me, your peppers will thank you for it!

Watering Wisely

Watering is crucial. Too much water can lead to root rot, while too little can stunt growth. Aim for consistent moisture, especially during the hot summer months. A good rule of thumb is to water when the top inch of soil feels dry.

Fertilizing for Success

Don’t forget about fertilizing! A balanced fertilizer can give your peppers the nutrients they need to grow strong and produce lots of fruit. Just be careful not to overdo it—too much fertilizer can lead to lush foliage but fewer peppers.

Harvesting Your Peppers

Finally, let’s chat about harvesting. The best time to pick your peppers is when they’re fully colored and firm. If you’re growing superhots, be ready for a fiery surprise! And remember, the longer you leave them on the plant, the hotter they can get.

Because come spring, you’ll want to be ready when the ghosts rise again.
