Grow your own Vitellina golden willow from 10 dormant cuttings, hand-cut from our own coppiced stools in Blountville, Tennessee.
Vitellina (Salix alba var. vitellina) is the classic golden willow: a fast, vigorous grower with large, strong, flexible rods. Stems glow bright yellow to orange through winter after the leaves drop, and dried rods turn orange, a warm accent color in basketry.
This is our most vigorous variety. Our second-year stools put up roughly 10 ft rods, about 20 rods per stool. Those big rods make Vitellina a top choice for living willow structures: fedges, arches, tunnels and domes.
Every bundle is cut from our own stools, not resold stock.
GOOD FOR:
- Living willow: fedges, arches, tunnels, and domes
- Landscaping: hedges, screens, and bright winter stem color
- Weaving: color accents and larger basketry work
- Floral: cut branches for arrangements
- Wet spots: pond edges, ditches, and low ground
PLANT WITH CARE:
Vitellina grows into a large tree if it is not cut back. Coppice it every year or two to keep it as a stool or structure. Its roots are aggressive, so plant it well away from septic systems, drain lines, and foundations.
