Vermont Red is a red-stemmed purple basket willow (Salix purpurea) and a long-time favorite among willow growers. It puts up fine, slender red rods that suit detailed weaving and add warm red color to a basket without dyes.

Hand-cut from our own coppiced stools at Harmony Springs Farm in Blountville, Tennessee. It's one of our largest plantings, so it's one of the varieties we can supply in quantity.

GOOD FOR - Fine, detailed basket weaving - Natural red color accents - Living willow fences, fedges and hedges

FROM OUR BEDS Our second-year Vermont Red stools put up fine rods about 6-10 ft tall: thinner than our big basketry varieties, and well suited to tight work.

PAIRS WELL WITH Hutchinson's Red for a second red tone, or Dicky Meadows for long, slender weavers.

GROWING Full sun, moist to wet soil. About 6-10 ft when coppiced every winter. Coppice every year for the straightest rods.

WHAT YOU GET 10 dormant willow cuttings, 10-12 inches, bundled and labeled, with planting instructions.

SHIPS IN WINTER Cuttings are harvested while dormant and shipped in winter, timed to your growing zone.

Free shipping on 4+ bundles ($80+). Orders under $80 ship for $15 flat shipping.
