Grow your own Green Dicks willow from 10 dormant cuttings, hand-cut from our own coppiced stools in Blountville, Tennessee.
Green Dicks is a classic English basketry willow (Salix purpurea) prized for long, slender, flexible rods. Stems run bright olive green in spring, take on red tones through summer, and turn a vivid green in winter after the leaves drop. Dried rods weave up a light greenish brown.
It's a male clone, so it produces no fluffy seed. Purpurea willows are rarely bothered by deer or rabbits, making Green Dicks a strong pick for living fences and screens.
Every bundle is cut from our own stools, not resold stock. We coppice every winter, and our second-year stools put up roughly 10 ft rods, 10-20 rods per stool.
